Windy Wedding!? Not that kind of wind… the swirling, scudding clouds across the sky type……. Oh my goodness, do we get some fabulous breezes up our hill…. So we’ve had some practice at making sure that weddings with a breeze go off without a hitch… And learnt the hard way so you don’t have to!
This being Scotland, you just don’t know what to expect, so we like to help you be prepared for every eventuality, just in case.

So here are our ten 10 tips with how to deal with a windy day for your wedding….
- Make the most of it! If you’re brave enough to head out doors, you’re going to have some simply spectacular photos full of movement…. And brilliant videos too, scudding skies, moving trees and lots of fun moments for the photographer to capture. Check out these simply stunning images by @nicolamullenphotography.
But if you’re worried about the hair up becoming a hair do down, then don’t worry about moving the ceremony and photos inside and photos inside. You have views from every window in The Orangery so you really are bringing the outdoors in…. We’ve got you covered… (literally).
- No to a brolly! They just won’t last….. If you are having an indoor wedding, and walking across to The Orangery, you’re much better off having a quick hair/clothing fix before you head down the aisle than finding yourself spiked somewhere uncomfortable by a brolly …..
- Outdoor wedding? Then be prepared. Think about a hairdo that will hold in possible winds – woven plaits, short cuts, ties for longer men’s hair, or flowing updos are all much more forgiving and give great photo ops for the photographer.
- Makeup – we definitely don’t recommend lipgloss. You don’t want your hair sticking to your lips as it blows! Elegant lip colour works a treat….
- Live, Laugh and Love! After all, this is your wedding day, nothing is going to ruffle your day, and definitely not the weather! You’re here to marry the one you love, for life… and there will definitely be some more breezy days to be had in your lives together, let’s embrace this one as the first of many in your married life!
